Oak Bluffs voters passed a $2.5 million debt exclusion and picked a new town clerk at the annual town election Thursday.

Residents overwhelmingly approved the spending question to upgrade the wastewater pump station on Dukes County avenue, 622-187. The station, which pumps about 90 per cent of the town’s wastewater to the treatment facility, is in a flood zone and will be elevated 18 feet. The electrical equipment at the facility will also be replaced.

Amy Del Torto was also sworn in as the new Oak Bluffs town clerk by moderator Jack Law in the public library Thursday evening. She won out in a three way-race against Benjamin Clark, and longtime select board member Gail Barmakian.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support that I received. I am completely honored,” Ms. Del Torto said. “I’m so excited to get to work for the people of Oak Bluffs.”

Ms. Del Torto will succeed clerk Colleen Morris, who last year decided to step down from the position. This is Ms. Del Torto’s first time holding public office. She received 538 votes. Mr. Clark received 225 and Ms. Barmakian received 156.

Ms. Del Torto was born and raised on the Vineyard and has more than two decades of paralegal experience.

Sean DeBettencourt will be taking Ms. Barmakian’s place on the select board. He ran unopposed. He received 690 votes. Mr. DeBettencourt has served on both the planning board and the finance and advisory committee.

James Butterick will continue to serve on the Oak Bluffs board of health. Dr. Butterick, who has served on the board since 2016, won over Sherry Countryman 551 to 269. In addition to eight years on the board of health, he has worked as an anesthesiologist and in hospital administration.

Julia Keefe is joining the wastewater commission after winning over John Hart, 412-260. Ms. Keefe is a retired attorney. She worked in Edgartown District Court for 10 years.

Dana Hughes will serve on the parks commission. She won out over Trina Emery, 592-169. Ms. Hughes, a lifelong Islander, was inspired to run by her passion for gardening.
