We finally got the much needed rain this week. Even though it was dark and gloomy, the flowers, trees and grass were all saying thanks. Of course, now that the sun has come out things are getting greener and also growing a bit faster.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Lauryn Bond and Travis Viera, who celebrated their day April 21; Kyle Boyd, April 22; Rebeca Lima, April 23; Caroline Hurley and Ana Ribeiro, April 25; and to Kayla Dow, who celebrated her day April 26.

Special Birthday wishes go out to the Cavallo family, who has birthdays three days in a row. Jonas Cavallo celebrated his day April 26; Coo celebrates his day today, April 27, and Mom Donna celebrates her day April 27. May you all have great days, and here’s to many more.

Ella Blodgett celebrated her day in Springfield with her mom, Ellen. A party was held at Chuck E. Cheese’s and a great time was had by all.

Dan and Jennifer Townes were so excited to surprise their daughters, Camden and Ava, with a trip to Disney. The Townes first traveled to Maryland to Jennifer’s parents and then told the news to the girls on video. They were very surprised. Judging by the pictures I have seen, they had a great time.

It was great to see the lights on at the Stotz house on the corner last week. Judy and Harry come down for a few days before the season begins. They look great and they had a nice winter — better than last when they couldn’t see out their windows because the snow was covering them.

Jen, Gordy, Alex, Griffon and Olivia Jones were here from Canandaigua for a week enjoying their home in Island Grove.

Saturday, April 28 is Work for Wildlife Day at Felix Neck Sanctuary from 9 to noon. All are welcome. Felix Neck is seeking volunteers to help prepare the butterfly garden for the season. Volunteers will plant, re-chip the paths, rejuvenate the soil and get ready for the return of butterflies and hummingbirds! Volunteers are also needed to build picnic tables and battle invasive plants. Please wear work clothes and bring any gardening tools and gloves or carpentry tools you may have.

We traveled to Walpole for the memorial service for Jim Kresel. There were about 25 to 30 Islanders that came and the church was full. It was a nice service and a great tribute to a great man.

The Edgartown Board of Trade is hosting the first annual Pink & Green Weekend May 11 to 13. The Pink & Green Ball on Saturday is a fund-raiser for this nonprofit organization. Many events will be going on around town throughout the weekend. Tickets are now available on the Web site.

I just happen to know that Donaromas will be having an open house on May 11 in the pink and green theme. Hope you all can come; it promises to be a great night.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
