Windemere Raises $17,600
For Recreational Programs
An Alison Shaw photograph, a week in a summer cottage at Menemsha, 100 oysters, farm-fresh from the Edgartown harbor, and a signed first edition of Geraldine Brooks’s latest book, Caleb’s Crossing, were among the many items sold on Friday night at the annual live and silent auction for the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Held at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury with the inimitable auctioneer Clarence A. (Trip) Barnes 3rd, the auction drew a lively crowd and raised $17,600 for the nursing home’s recreation department. “We were very happy with the results,” said Rachel Vanderhoop, director of development for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Last year’s auction raised $19,000. The money goes to support a variety of recreational programs for the Windemere residents, including trips to the theatre, dining out and in-house music programs.
