Barbara Ann Barry died Sunday, Jan. 3 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at the age of 80.
She was born on June 29, 1929, the daughter of Clarence F. Barry and Alma Bickford Barry. She lived in West Tisbury for most of her teen years; the family then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where she lived for many years.
She came back to the Vineyard in 1998 and lived with her niece until she moved to Windemere, where she had many good friends and a wonderful staff to take care of her. One special nurse, Melissa Pelletier, was her great-niece whom she loved very much. She enjoyed making jewelry with beads, and place mats for friends and family in their favorite colors. She also loved going to the Flying Horses and the beach, on shopping trips off-Island, lunch at the airport, and going to the senior center. She especially loved the days kids or animals would visit Windemere, and she had fun playing games with her friends. She loved the staff who went out of their way to do special little things for her, like make her favorite macaroni and cheese. She also loved the Christmas bazaar and fashion show.
Known to her family and friends as Bobbie or Auntie Bobbie, she enjoyed life fully.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Shelton and Geraldine Silvia, and one brother, Donald Barry. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were under the care of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home in North Attleboro.
Interment will be in the New Westside Cemetery in Edgartown. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
