The North Water Gallery announces its opening show for the summer season, which runs from July 1 to July 14. The following artists will be featured:

• Suzanne Crocker’s oil paintings. Suzanne will be showcasing new work from her series on barns. Using color fields and mark-making, she abstracts the essential elements of a place with powerful color. Ms. Crocker attributes much of her artistic knowledge to her studies with master painters and colorists, Wolf Kahn and Cynthia Packard. She received art training at several schools and she has spent more than three decades making art.

• Carrie Gustafson’s glass art. The faceted designs of her vessels are inspired by kimono designs, nature and baskets. The overall forms are blown in collaboration with Mark Weiner of Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks. She will have new exquisitely etched glass vessels and forms.

• Ken Auster’s oil paintings. Thick paint and loose style characterize the street and restaurant scenes he creates. He divides his time between producing paintings, traveling and painting on location all over the world, and teaching. He has won a number of prestigious awards including best of show at the California Art Club (1998); best of show at Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition (1999); grand prize at the Plein Air Tucson event (2000); and first place and artists’ choice award at the 2001 Carmel Art Festival. He has been featured in both American Artist magazine and Southwest Art magazine.

• Betty Anglin Smith’s oil paintings. The artist, who lives in Charleston, S.C., visited the Vineyard, and like so many others fell in love with its dramatic vistas, light and color. She uses bold colors and brush strokes to evoke the pastoral landscapes of the Vineyard and low country. Her work has won numerous awards in national juried shows across the country, including best of show at Charleston’s world-famous Spoleto Arts Festival. Her work has been featured in Southern Accents magazine, side by side with that of Wolf Kahn, one of America’s most highly respected artists, and is in museum collections across the country.

Located on North Water street in Edgartown, the gallery’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For details, call 508-627-6002 or see northwatergallery.com.
