Children’s Gardens
Award-winning children’s garden designer Jane L. Taylor, founding curator at Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden at Michigan State University, will lead a program about creating educational and entertaining gardens for children. Open to all teachers, parents and community members, the program will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Edgartown School.
Organizers believe that gardens grow kids, and the best place to start is where they are: at school. Learning about the plants we use every day, the foods we eat and integrating hands-on garden activities into all areas of the curriculum — science, math, history, literature and the arts — is a critical part of a child’s education.
The program is cosponsored by Polly Hill Arboretum, Island Grown Schools, and Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools. Two PDP credits are available for those who attend. The program costs $10, which includes a garden lunch and tour following program. For details, call 508-693-9426.
