Plymouth Rock Studios, a $500-million film and television studio complex scheduled to open in 2010 in Plymouth, has selected Hurd Publishing of Oak Bluffs to produce the company’s quarterly publication, Plymouth Rock Studios Magazine. The publication will report on studio plans and events and on Massachusetts as an up-and-coming film venue. The first issue is due out in June. It will be distributed to members of Hollywood’s Producers Guild of America and to major East Coast hotels.
The company’s principals pride themselves on the fact that their 10-acre back lot, 14 sound stages, theatre, offices and an amenity village for those involved in productions will be environmentally friendly. They hope to eventually provide as many as 2,000 new jobs in the Bay State. The studio site is the former Waverly Oaks Golf Course in Plymouth.
Hurd Publishing, a company owned by Leslie Hurd of West Tisbury, has been producing guidebooks and magazines on the Vineyard for more than 15 years. Among the company’s publications are Martha’s Vineyard Wedding & Honeymoon Magazine, Martha’s Vineyard Dining Guide, Experience Martha’s Vineyard, Bermuda Wedding & Honeymoon Magazine and Virgin Island Wedding & Honeymoon Magazine. The 2005 book, Martha’s Vineyard Island Reflections, photographs of the Island dating back to the 1800s, was also a Hurd publication.
