The Vineyard saw plenty of rain in June. The total for the month was 3.67 inches, according to the National Weather Service cooperative station in Edgartown.

That represents more than an inch of rainfall above average, but that number isn’t as significant as the frequency.

There were 25 days last month that produced some measurable amount of rain. The rain may have come as little as a trace or it may have come as much as .87 inches, but it came almost every day and it colored the month.

There are many mainland meteorologists who have the data and can compare June to Junes of the past. They say it is one with the least amount of sun. And without that sun it was cool. The Island weather station has been around since 1946 but there is no way without extensive work to come out with comparisons from past years.

This June was a memory here, not a pleasant one, but one just the same.

The temperature last month rarely got above 60 degrees and it hovered around 50 degrees for days. The highest temperature was 78 degrees and it came on Sunday, June 7. The coolest day was June 1 when the temperature dropped to 44 degrees overnight.
