Burton L. Eichler of Summit, N.J., Jupiter, Fla., and Edgartown died Nov. 26 in the Thibodaux Medical Center in Louisiana.
Born in Newark, Mr. Eichler lived in South Orange and Summit, N.J., for 25 years. He was one of the founding partners of the Brach, Eichler law firm in Roseland. His name was synonymous with the practice of health and hospital law in New Jersey for 35 years.
Mr. Eichler was a member of the Essex County (N.J.), New York and American bar associations and the American Health Lawyers Association.
He served as a member in the South Orange/Maplewood Board of Education from 1980 to 1983 and as vice president from 1981 to 1982.
Burt was a member of the board of directors of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the board of the Cerebral Palsy League of North Jersey. Earlier in November, he was honored for his years of service and dedication to the league. He was chair of District 5 fee arbitration committee from 1985 to 1986.
Listed among the top lawyers in New Jersey and America, he was honored by the Academy of Medicine with its Citizen Award. He was a longtime member of Temple Sinai in Summit.
Mr. Eichler was the beloved husband of Belinda (née Stein); devoted father of Betsy Eichler Feinstein (and husband, Stephen), Peter Eichler (and wife, Mildred) and Thomas Eichler (and wife, Stephanie); loving stepfather of Scott (and wife, Cathy) and Kirk Brodows; and most precious grandfather of 11 grandchildren.
The family requests contributions to the Cerebral Palsy League of North Jersey; Temple Sinai, Summit; or the Vineyard Nursing Association of Martha’s Vineyard.
