Emily S. (Steere) Andrews of Mashpee, formerly of Keene and Surry, N.H., died on Thursday, August 21 at Harborside Health Care in Mashpee. She was 70 and had been married to Robert C. Andrews for 48 years.
She was a student in the Oak Bluffs schools and she graduated from Bridgewater State College. She worked as an elementary school teacher and she was also a preschool teacher in Keene, N.H. for 10 years.
Emily and Robert co-managed The Sandy Island Family Camp for Greater Boston YMCA on Lake Winnipesaukee. She was a member of the Gourmet Diners Club and enjoyed crochet, knitting, reading and traveling the United States and Europe. She was a loving wife and mother.
In addition to her husband Robert, she is survived by her sons, Michael and Peter Andrews of San Francisco, Calif., and the late David Andrews; a grandchild Benjamin; sisters Shirley Smith of Vineyard Haven, Gloria Steere of Oak Bluffs, Janet Packish of Falmouth, Nancy Howes of Dennis, Florence Olsen of Centerville, Rosemary Finley of Alabama and the late Marilyn Shannon; brothers David Steere of West Tisbury, Steven Steere of Georgia and the late Jesse Steere.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday, August 27 in Christ the King Church at Mashpee Commons. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Mashpee.
Interment will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
