Last week we had 40 degree weather and as I sit here it is a blizzard outside and the thermometer is at 13 degrees. So, I guess that means that winter is not over.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to William Thornton, who celebrated Jan. 18; Neveaha Jackson, Jan. 19; Dylan Mahoney, Jan. 20; Autumn Donnelly, Jan. 23, and to Kylie Fauteux who celebrates her day today, Ja. 24.

Priscilla and Peter Bettencourt are the proud grandparents, along with Tom and Sherri Church of West Tisbury, of Vada Priscilla Church born on Jan. 4 to Robyn and Adam Church of Edgartown. Vada is the 16th grandchild and fifth granddaughter for Peter and Priscilla. Congratulations to all!

We are glad to see Eck Wolf back at home after a fall on Dec. 5. She was in Massachusetts General Hospital for three weeks and is now doing some heavy rehab. In the fall she broke her neck, ribs, nose and wrist, so she will be at home for a while.

Eck’s son Roswell Wolf was contacted about the accident and flew home from Singapore to be with his mom and to help her. I’m sure that she would love to get some calls or cards from her friends while she is homebound. Here is to a speedy recovery, Eck.,

Once again our community is pulling together for one of our own. We are trying to arrange meals, pick up kids and help with errands for the family of John Varkonda, who past away Dec. 29. His wife Jane and children Aiden and Kasey are trying to adjust to this next phase of their lives and it would be nice to give them a hand. If you go online to Helping Hands — this is the link www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/712588/join — you can find the calendar to schedule a time to make meals, give rides and more. Thank you in advance for your help with this. I’m sure the family will be very appreciative.

Biscuit, the beloved yellow puppy of children’s books by Alyssa Capucilli, will be making the rounds of Island libraries in the last week of January. For several years the Martha’s Vineyard Library Association has rented full-sized costumes for story hours, where children have enjoyed books and posed for pictures with characters from Curious George to Olivia the Pig and Amelia Bedelia.

Biscuit’s Vineyard visit will take him to each of the libraries. He will be at the Edgartown library at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Now that I am at the end of my article, it is still snowing and we are expected to get three to six more inches. Oh, my.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
