Oh, the weather outside is frightful! Every time I hear that song I think of the Campbell soup commercial with the snowman that melts into a little boy after a bowl of soup. With this weather it is soup season, maybe not for Campbell’s but a big pot of kale soup cooking seems like the right idea.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Griffin Buehler and Samantha Folts who celebrated their day Dec. 22; Hannah Rabasca and Zachary Vukota, Dec. 24; Neto Batista, Molly Pogue and Paige Pogue, Dec. 26; Caroline Conover and Rebecca Parente, Dec. 27; Daniel Resto, Dec. 29; Alexander Walsh and Jack Walsh, Dec. 31; Emily Gazzaniga, Jan. 3; Michael Habekost, Scotty Lively, Matthew Morris, Amelia Russell Schaeffer and Tatum Thomas, Jan. 4; Gino Chick and Ingrid Gundersen, Jan. 5;, Mario Arellano, Jan. 7, and to Evelyn Brewer, John Laird and Miles Riley who all celebrate their day today, Jan. 9.

My apologies go out to the Mundt family. I forgot names and I called the baby the wrong name. I guess I had too much New Year’s. So here is the official announcement. Congratulations to Ryan and Michelle Mundt on the birth of their daughter Evangeline (Lina) who was born Dec. 26 2014. Lina weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Doreen and Steve Meoli of East Haven, Conn., and paternal grandparents are Patty Mundt and Kurt Mundt of Edgartown. Congratulations to all.

This is a difficult time of year to get news as people have already headed south, and with this weather no one is out and about. So if you would like to share an activity or a trip you have gone on, please contact me.

The next few weekends will be filled with football in a lot of houses as the Pats take on the Ravens Saturday. I know there will be a lot of people headed to Gillette to be a part of the game. I remember when going to a game was a huge trip and it was a once-a-year, if you were lucky, trip. Now there are so many Islanders that go. It is a good thing, but it is amazing how time changes. Go Pats!

I know I keep mentioning the weather in this column, but it is the first real cold spell we have had. I would also like to remind you to remember our four-legged friends who need to keep warm and well watered. The water will be frozen outside. Also remember our fine feathered friends. I know some people don’t like to feed them as they start to depend on them, but they can also give you so much pleasure with their colors and watching them zip in and out to the feeders. They too have limited sources this time of year.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
