People are smiling and wearing shorts and, most important, flip flops. With the sun shining, everyone is out and about and getting ready for the season. It is amazing what a little sun can do to make one feel so much better.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Sasha Kagan and Nicholas Rabeoni on May 2; Paige Anderson, May 3; Tayla Ben David, Aleeya Holley and Hector Oliveira, May 5; Ruby DelloRusso, May 7, and to Jahzarah McIntosh, who celebrates her day today, May 8.

Special birthday wishes go out to Coo and Donna Cavallo who celebrated their day April 16 and 17.

Congratulations go out to Max Sherman and his new wife Danielle Nalepal, who were joined in marriage last weekend. Word has it that it was a beautiful day and a great celebration.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum would love you to join them Saturday during the Edgartown Board of Trade’s Pink and Green weekend as they host a decoupage herb pot activity for kids. Using beautiful Japanese papers, they will decoupage tiny pots perfect to start a spring windowsill garden. Soil, seeds and care cards are provided. It’s free and the pots make the perfect Mother’s Day gift. The event will be Saturday, May 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the museum library. The event is appropriate for kids age 5 and up.

The Edgartown library book group meets at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, to discuss Carrie La Seur’s debut novel, The Home Place. Set in Montana, it’s described by Library Journal as “an accomplished novel of the new West.” They have copies of this book available at the library desk, and gatherings of the book group are open to all. The book club, led by library director Jill Dugas Hughes, meets monthly.

I was pleasantly surprised when my sister in law Lela Gilkes came to the house with a bag of fresh salmon that her husband Cooper had caught on his annual trip with Ray Long to Canada. They have been doing this trip for as long as I can remember, and when they bring the fish home it is a great treat for us. Of course they come back with some great stories. I know they are fish stories, but they are good ones.

Pink and Green is all over Edgartown. There are a lot of activities, so I hope you can all get out and enjoy some of them.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
