With temperatures in the 90s, Inkwell Beach was filled with umbrellas. Timothy Johnson

Summer is in full flower, with hot, humid weather on its way and wildflower fields and cutting gardens in peak bloom. Pink, white and blue hydrangeas are voluptuous and varied, from the lacecap variety to the huge blue globes that are so beautiful in arrangements. Classic dahlias climb against tall stakes, surrounded by a tumble of mint and tea roses. Lacy cosmos nod in the summer sun. Masses of black-eyed Susans, yarrow and coneflowers fill the eye, against a backdrop of distant Nantucket Sound, also in bloom with sailboats, windsurfers and fishing crafts, their occupants in hot pursuit of summer flounder and striped bass. It's July.
