Martha’s Vineyard Community Services last week launched a new telemedicine program aimed at better serving the needs of patients seeking mental health services.

The telemedicine program will allow remote diagnosis and treatment of patients in conjunction with the University of Massachusetts. It is expected to alleviate wait lists and help patients with psychiatric needs, including medication management.

The program was made possible by a grant from the Cape Cod Five Cents Bank, the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard and private donors.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last Thursday at the Community Services campus in Oak Bluffs.
