Although spring is just around the corner, we have had another reminder that winter is still here with the dusting of snow on Tuesday afternoon. No significant depth to it but an inconvenience to drivers.

Chilmark Chocolates re-opens Thursday. Stop by this weekend to stock up on your Valentine’s Day supply.

Go Patriots!

Thank you to Mrs. Nancy Kohlberg for hostessing our annual Vineyard Gazette not holiday party on Friday evening at the Harbor View Hotel. Unfortunately, Mrs. Kohlberg was not able to attend. The food was delectable this year. There were approximately 60 in attendance and our publisher Jane Seagrave asked that we each stand and introduce ourselves and our position with the Vineyard Gazette, some of the responses were rather hilarious. A grand time was had by all.

My friend Skip Finley informed me that WYOB, 105.5 FM is Martha’s Vineyard’s reggae radio station to teach Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School students about professional radio. It is operated from the high school and they are midway through becoming accredited as a CTE (Career Technical Education) course that provides the high school with funds per student and pays the instructor from the commonwealth at no cost to the school system. On Monday, Feb. 6 it is Bob Marley’s birthday and staff at WYOB are having Marley Monday, playing all Bob Marley songs all day —4 hours of Marley songs by Bob and others. Thanks to the ability to accept sponsorships from underwriters they are able to cover operating costs, and are now looking to upgrade the technical facilities wherever they can through contributions.

Speaking of radio stations, Molly Purves was the WMVY Person of the Week for all of her involvement in the Vineyard community.
