For a brief moment, it was delightful to see the forsythia in full bloom. The zero degree temperatures over the weekend brought back the reminder of winter with the wind and ice. Oh well, spring is just two weeks away. Father Thyme, aka John Alley, reminds us that Daylight Saving Time is Sunday, so turn your clocks ahead one hour early that morning. We have been observing Daylight Savings Time for 99 years and there are thoughts of eliminating it all together as a few states have done.

On Saturday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m. it is story time at the Aquinnah Public Library, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a Saint Patrick’s Day craft: a green hat with a gold buckle. On Tuesday, March 14 at 4 p.m. is the after school club, and at 5 p.m. is a film for adults about a former baseball player.

On Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m. the First Baptist Church will have their annual St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinner. Back by popular demand with Chef Roger Spinney. Come for a delicious complete meal with corned beef, cabbage, corn or Irish soda bread, potatoes, carrots, a choice of desserts and beverages. $12 per person. The Yard will present renowned throat singer Tanya Tagaq performing on Monday, March 13 at 7 p.m. at the high school Performing Arts Center. Tanya will be in concert with the controversial film Nanook of the North. Jean Martin will perform on drums and Jesse Zubot on violin. Tickets are $25 for general admission; $15 for seniors, students, and military, and $5 for children under 12. Aquinnah tribal members are encouraged to show their tribal ID cards.

Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living and The Memory Café will host a celebration in honor of its second year at 10 a.m. on March 16 at the American Legion Hall in Vineyard Haven. There will be coffee, cake, and as always music with the band.

Film director Anne Makepeace will present her new film Tribal Justice at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival on March 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center. Judge Claudette White will join Anne at the screening.

Welcome home to Shirley Vincent Kaeka, who returned to the Vineyard on Tuesday after spending a few years in Hawaii. She was accompanied home by her son Daryl Kaeka.

The Chilmark School is holding an all-Island event Wednesday, March 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the school to introduce STEAM to adults on the Island. The event introduces activities that incorporate science, technology, engineering, art and math.
