With warm days around the corner, it’s summer haircut time for the herd at Island Alpaca. The farm’s annual shearing day will take place Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Beyond meeting the alpacas and watching the annual shearing process, family-friendly festivities include yarn-spinning demonstrations, a raffle, and a contest to guess the total harvest of alpaca fleece. At last year’s shearing day more than 500 pounds of fleece was harvested to be made into hats, scarves, gloves, and other items sold at the farm’s store. Donations for the food pantry will also be collected.
Island Alpaca is also celebrating its 10th anniversary on the Island. For more information visit islandalpaca.com.
