Saturday morning offers a cornucopia of celestial objects. The moon, together with the bright planet Venus and fainter Mars and Mercury will grace the eastern sky. They are spread out. But Mars and Mercury are only a fraction of a degree apart.

Start Saturday morning with a look to the southeast for the bright crescent moon above them all. Look to the left of the moon and you can’t miss seeing the brilliant planet Venus, the brightest planet in our sky.

Take your time and look below Venus and slightly to the east and closer to the horizon and you’ll see two apparent celestial objects side by side. The brighter of the two is Mercury, for it is also the closest. Next to Mercury is Mars looking fainter and reddish.

The three planets are in the zodiacal constellation Leo, a constellation we normally associate with spring and early summer. You get another chance to see all four celestial objects together on Sunday and Monday morning. But the moon appears closer and closer to the horizon. New Moon is next Wednesday, which is entirely different from the last New Moon, when the moon eclipsed the sun.
