Here we go. It snowed this past weekend. Now on Monday as I write this it is supposed to be near or in the 50s mid-week then cold again. I can say Welcome to New England again and again, but what a tease.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Matheus Lauriano, who celebrated Feb. 17, Kaitlyn Freeman, Feb. 18, and to Olivia Coyle who celebrated her day Feb. 19.
Last Wednesday I had to go away, and was on the 8:15 a.m. boat. The SSA was one boat down, and the dreaded announcement came as we slowed down just before the channel in Woods Hole that we had to wait for the freight boat to leave the only slip open. Of course that drew a lot of ah’s from passengers that were on their way work. When we were able to continue about 20 minutes later, we docked in the slip on the other side of the ticket office which is where the boats that are out of service dock, so there was no passenger off ramp, and we had to unload on the freight deck. Now if the passengers have to use the freight deck, they usually have to unload the cars first. So as they are unloading, a passenger was yelling at the crew that she had to be to work and was already late. It was really bothersome to a lot of us because the crew was only doing their job and for our safety. It is not their fault that there was construction.
But on an up note, which is where I was going with this story, it was Valentine’s Day, and this young mother was on the boat with her two-year-old and a seven- to nine-month-old, who was in a stroller. The two year old was being a two year old, walking up and down the aisle and not paying attention to her mother’s call. Well this nice lady sitting across from us started to talk to the little girl as her mother was gathering up trying to prepare to get off the boat, and she reached into her purse and pulled out a valentine’s card, one with a doughnut with googly eyes on it, which made the young lady stop and then turned her attention to her mother. Of course I could not keep out of it and asked where mine was. She reached in her purse and pulled another out. I laughed and told her it was so kind that she did this and it made peoples’ day. So as I was waiting to go downstairs I turned the card over to notice that she wrote the card to: kindness from: love. Perfect.
I cannot end this column without mentioning the cast and crew of West Side Story. It has been all over social media, and the papers, but actually being there and seeing the amazing talent our youth has is so enlightening. We are so lucky to have the people who put their time into teaching our kids and giving them their opportunity to shine. I am sorry if you did not get to see the play but take it from those who did, it was amazing.
Just a reminder that next week is our school vacation week. If you are traveling travel safe and have a great time and call me with your adventures to share.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
