Uh-oh. The vote in town on Tuesday had 21 more votes against building a new school. I am sure we have not heard the end of this.

I missed the SSA meeting on-Island Monday. More opinions and debate. We are getting down to the wire with summer boat schedules. I am sure this will be worked out soon.

Tamma Cimeno spent a great week visiting her daughter, Ashley, in San Marco, Tex. Son in law Sam Byrd was working hard as usual but says Tamma is his favorite mother in law. The icing on the cake was seeing three-year old grandson, Jude. I hope we get to see this young family on-Island this summer. You know how Sam and Ashley met, right? The Black Dog cafe.

I enjoy asking the members of the astute Dunham family what they are reading. Jen Dunham is totally involved in Madeleine Albright’s newest, Fascism, A Warning. I am next in line for the book. Ms. Albright is such a great person and writer. We need her.

Speaking of books, our library has a book club group on the third Thursday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The choice for May is Euphoria by Lily King. Copies are available for you at the circulation desk.

Another regular event at the library is the meeting of the photography club on the first Thursday of every month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All library clubs and movies are free. All levels of experience in photography are welcome. I have been noticing some great work by Island photographers lately. Shout out to Brian Packish, Kristie Noyes Mayhew, Roberta Kern, and the indefatigable Paul F. Doherty.

On Tuesday May 1 The Post will be screened at the library at 7 p.m.

Nancy Purnell, formerly of Our Town, invited me to one of her art shows in New York city. Unfortunately, I could not get there by April 15, the last day. The show was held at Pier 92, West 54th street. In my memories of living in Manhattan that area was car-tow purgatory. Any tickets, overparked, wrong place vehicles were sucked up and dumped at that spot on the Hudson, held hostage for bail money. Am I correct? I’ll keep you posted on Nancy’s next show.

I think this is the fifth time Chris Kennedy will be crossing home plate at our beloved Fenway. And this year our Island grown marathoner, Quinn Retmier will be running, too. The 2018 Run To Home Base is an annual event that raises money for our Veterans’ needs. You may donate to both Chris Kennedy and Quinn Retmier online. There is nothing like seeing a Vineyarder cross home plate at Fenway.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Tricia and Cory Valastek who just celebrated six years. Tricia was from here but now lives in Texas, as many of our Islanders do. And in other Islanders enjoying warmer winters, I know Marc O’Donnell and Robin Whitley O’Donnell have just had their 38th anniversary celebrating in Arizona. Mazel tov to all. The birthday bandwagon pulled along a trifecta of beautiful women on April 25: Lorraine Clark, Sarah Codding and Deborah DiSanto. All these ladies take the cake. Many happy returns.
