Chilmark police Sgt. Sean Slavin received a commendation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation last week for his work helping to solve a case involving an elderly Island woman who was bilked out of millions by a purported psychic.

The unusual case dates to 2013. The defendant, a former Florida resident named Sally Ann Johnson but also known as Angela Johnson, Angelia Johnson, and Sally Reed, later pleaded guilty to federal charges of tax evasion and is now serving jail time.

The commendation was awarded to Sergeant Slavin during a training session held at the Edgartown School last Friday for members of Island law enforcement that included training and continuing education about elder abuse.

Sergeant Slavin received a formal commendation from the Chilmark selectmen last year for his work on the case.
