Svea E. Collison, 93, Was Camp Ground Resident
Svea Elizabeth Collison of Yarmouth, 93, died on Feb. 13 at the Maine Medical Center. She was born in Providence, R.I., on August 11, 1909, to Hanna and Bror Peterson, who had come to this country from Sweden. Her twin brothers, Ray and Edgar, predeceased her.
She was graduated from Cranston High School and from the Roger Williams Hospital School of Nursing.
She spent every summer for the past 48 years in the family's cottage on the Camp Ground in Oak Bluffs. She was a member of the Yarmouth Historical Society, the Yarmouth Woman's Club, the Edgartown Woman's Club, the Robert Williams Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association and the Oriental Chapter #93 of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Yarmouth.
Mrs. Collison is survived by her husband of 69 years, Curtis Lee Collison, who resides at Bay Square in Yarmouth. Other survivors include her daughters, Sandra Lee Collison of New York city and Judith C. Foss of Yarmouth and a son, Curtis L. Collison Jr. of New Bern, N.C. Her six grandchildren include Theodore Richard Foss of Los Angeles, Abigail Svea Foss of Tucson, Kate Collison Foss of New York city, Curtis Lee Collison 3rd of Atlanta, Jeffrey Lee Collison of Alexandria and Eric William Collison of Raleigh. Great-grandchildren include Eli Foss Protas of Tucson and Curtis Lee Collison 4th of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, P.O. Box 1176, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557. Arrangements are by the Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth.
