Doris J. Goyetche, 74, Was Oak Bluffs Teacher

Doris J. Goyetche, 74, of 2 Myrtle Square, Gloucester, died on Sunday , May 2, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Gloucester on June 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma (Boudreau) Goyetche. She was a longtime resident of Gloucester, graduating from Gloucester High School with the class of 1947. She earned her bachelor of science degree in 1951 and master in education degree in l957 from Bridgewater State College.

Miss Goyetche was an educator her entire life. After college she taught for seven years in Oak Bluffs, which left her with a lasting love for the Island and its people. As a younger woman, she traveled there often and until recently owned property by the Lagoon in Oak Bluffs.

During her tenure on the Island, she taught geography and science, grades seven to nine and physical education, grades one to 12. She also enjoyed coaching the Oak Bluffs girls' basketball team. She treasured her lasting friendship with many former students and was looking forward to the 50th reunion of the Class of 1954 this June.

Miss Goyetche was a life member of the National Education Association and Massachusetts Teachers Association. She was an active member of the American Philatelic Society and served as historian of the Bridgewater Alumni Group, which meets regularly on Cape Cod.

She is survived by her sister, Norma Munroe, and her husband, Alan, of Gloucester; she was a beloved member of the Munroe family which includes her nephew and godson, Alan Munroe Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Hudson; a nephew, David Munroe, and his wife, Lynn, of Gloucester, and a niece, Lisa Munroe, and her fiancé, Jeff Korte, of Cambridge. She was devoted to her great-niece Emily and great nephew Jacob Munroe. She also leaves a half-sister, Grace Bouchie of Rockport, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Gloucester, on Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery.

Her visiting hours were held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the James C. Greely Funeral Home, 2l2 Washington street, Gloucester.
