Catherine M. Ohlson Was Artist, Volunteer

Catherine M. (Kay) Ohlson of Oak Bluffs, formerly of West Bridgewater, died Thursday, June 17, at her home. She was the loving wife of Sumner H. Ohlson, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.

Kay was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Maguire) Welch. She grew up in Whitman and was graduated from Whitman High School. After high school Kay was a model in the Boston area for several years.

After her marriage she resided in West Bridgewater and also maintained a residence on Martha's Vineyard. Kay was a volunteer for the Martha's Vineyard Community Services Thrift Shop. She was an avid painter, winning many ribbons for her work in the annual Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair. She also loved her cats. She was known on the Island as the proud owner of what she called "my baby," a 1966 Mercury Monterey convertible.

Besides her husband Kay is survived by step-son, Richard Ohlson, and his wife, Cheryl, of Dennis.

A visitation for Kay will be held in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs on Tuesday, June 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. Her funeral service will be private.
