Robert Flynn Nagle, 78, Was New York Educator

Robert Flynn Nagle of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Edgartown died Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Boston's New England Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia. He was 78 years old.

Born at the North Adams Regional Hospital Feb. 2, 1927, to James and Helen Ferguson Nagle, he became an outstanding student and exceptional athlete. Excelling as a pitcher in the sport of baseball, he was recruited by the Boston Red Sox.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, after which he attended Tufts University, the University of Massachusetts Teachers College, Hunter College, the University of Connecticut and the New School for Social Research.

He was an admired and respected educator in Mamaroneck and Westchester County, N.Y. He was a contributor to his community in many outstanding capacities for more than 50 years. Under his tutelage, children benefited from his unselfish devotion and dedication to enriching their lives.

He looked forward each season to returning to his Edgartown home. He spent many hours enjoying his friends and participating in sports. He was a generous patron of the arts and promoted his passion for education by aiding children and families in crisis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Karrey Nagle, and his children and grandchildren, Shaun, Karrey-Lynn, Erin, Jeff, Brendan, Taylor Kate and Bronwynne. A private service was held by the family in Boston.
