Constance Crump Hume Was Grade School Teacher

Constance Crump Hume died on May 26 in her home on Martha's Vineyard.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Michael Hume of Boston.

Constance grew up in Darien, Conn., and attended the Knox School. She was graduated from Smith College with a degree in art history and later received a master's degree in education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She was an elementary school teacher in New York city and a volunteer teacher in Boston.

Constance was a member of Beacon Hill Circle for Charity and the League of Women Voters. She was a life-long supporter of the arts, an intrepid traveler and an avid reader. She counted as a blessing her year-round home with its restorative view of Chilmark Pond and the ocean beyond.

Constance is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hume, her son, Nelson Hume, and her cherished grandchildren, Milo Hume and Cora Hume-Fagin, all of New York city. She is also survived by a brother, Walter Crump of Belvedere, Calif., and a sister, Cynthia Crimmins of Noroton, Conn.

Constance will be interred in Abel's Hill cemetery next to her eldest daughter, Claire, and her husband, Michael, in a private ceremony on June 3. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice of Martha's Vineyard, P.O. Box 2549, Oak Bluffs, MA.
