Teresa C. McQuiggan, 79, Was Supermarket Cashier

Teresa C. McQuiggan, a lifelong resident of East Providence, R.I., died July 11. She was 79.

Teresa was born in East Providence, the daughter of the late Antonio and Teresa J. (Oliveira) Almeida.

She was a talented seamstress, avid reader and a die-hard beach-goer. Her love of the shore was a trait she passed on to her children. Proud of her Portuguese ancestry, she made many trips to the Azores, Madeira and Portugal, where her fluency in her parents' native language served her well.

A member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union, she worked as a clerk and cashier for Almacs Super Markets for more than 20 years. Teresa also volunteered at St. Francis Chapel in Providence, R.I.

She is survived by her children, Frank McQuiggan of East Providence, Stephen McQuiggan of Chilmark, Christine McQuiggan of Narragansett and John McQuiggan of East Providence; seven grandsons, and one great-grandson. She was the sister of Mary Almeida Ferri of Barrington and Anthony (Tony) Almeida of East Providence.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Lazarus Fund, 58 Weybosset street, Providence, RI 02903.
