Peter A. Culkin, 43, Was Known for Good Cheer

Peter A. Culkin of West Tisbury died unexpectedly on Oct. 3.

Peter was born in Ridgewood, N.J. on Oct. 3, 1963. He was the son of Dan and Sally Culkin of Franklin Lakes, N.J., and West Tisbury.

Peter was a graduate of the Berkshire School in Sheffield and he attended Alfred University. He was the proprietor of an Island business, PAC Flooring. His interests and avocations were many and were usually oriented to the outdoors. Summer often found him in his kayak and his love of skiing took him to Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and Switzerland as well as to various mountains in both the eastern and western United States.

He is survived by a brother, Mark Culkin of Franklin Lakes; two sisters, Elizabeth Mirabelli of Chatham, N.J., and Barbara Dugan of Ramsey, N.J.; a niece, Kate Mirabelli and two nephews, John and Danny Dugan.

He was close to his family and friends and was known for his good cheer, optimism and helpfulness. A funeral mass was celebrated on Oct. 11 at St. Augustine's Church in Vineyard Haven. Interment was private.
