Joyce Alley Was Islander Who Cared for Family

Mrs. Joyce Mary Tucker Alley passed away on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Joyce was born on Dec. 10, 1939 in Goffstown, N.H., the daughter of the late George I. Tucker and Constance Maxwell.

The Tucker family resided in Goffstown and in Fitchburg before moving to Oak Bluffs in 1949.

Joyce graduated from the Oak Bluffs High School in 1957. In 1958, she married Lawrence H. Pachico. They were the parents of Lisa Robin Pachico.

In November 1965, Joyce married A. Forrest Alley Jr. and moved to what was then Gay Head. During her years in Gay Head, she worked with the Manning family at their restaurant for several years. In 1967, she went to work for Dr. David Rappaport at his Oak Bluffs office, where she was employed for the next 15 years. Joyce spent the next 20 years of her working career as a Sheriff's Department dispatcher at the Dukes County Communications Center.

She cared for generations of her family and enjoyed visits from her extended family members, who often arrived at the Tucker home from New Hampshire. In turn, Joyce and her family would often visit with their extended family in New Hampshire.

Survivors include her husband, A. Forrest Alley, Jr. of Aquinnah; her daughter, Lisa Cass of Oak Bluffs; her stepson, Alfred Alley III of Watertown; granddaughters Jenna Gosson and Annie Cass, both of Oak Bluffs; her brothers, Phillip Tucker and his wife, Josephine, of Florida, and George Tucker of Oak Bluffs; her sister, Susan Peters and her husband Earl V. of Oak Bluffs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours were scheduled to be held Tuesday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason in Oak Bluffs. A graveside service was scheduled to be held Wednesday at Oak Grove Cemetery on Pacific avenue in Oak Bluffs.
