Eleanor Pilgren, Died 87, Beloved Artist, Gardener
Eleanor (Betty) Pilgren died peacefully on the morning of Dec. 23. Born at home on Sept. 17, 1919, to Alexander and Edith Calvert, she spent most of her life in the Philadelphia area and on her beloved Long Beach Island. In 2002 she moved to Woodside Village to be closer to her family.
Mrs. Pilgren was devoted to her large extended family and was also able to have a career as both a professional artist and antique dealer. Her beautiful gardens brought joy to many of her neighbors and she always loved the beach, newborn babies and her many dogs.
Windemere was her home for the past two years and she was lovingly cared for and became quite fond of the wonderful staff.
She is survived by her daughter Holly and her husband Bob Coulter of Edgartown, her son John and his wife Judi Pilgren, her sister Jean Ryan, her brother in law Edward and his wife Kitty Pilgren and her sister in law Edith Pilgren Nebhut, all of Pennsylvania.
All her grandchildren will sadly miss her: Mark and Stephanie Coulter, Ben Coulter and Christy Park, Kate Coulter, Michael Coulter, Ingrid Pilgren and Eric Pilgren, as well as her many nieces and nephews of the Pilgren, Ryan and Nebhut families.
She was predeceased by her loving husband John F. Pilgren and her dear sister Elsie Schmidt.
