John Michael Dias Was Employee in Edgartown

John Michael Dias, 46, of Edgartown, formerly of Taunton, died Monday, Jan. 22 after collapsing at the Vineyard Tennis Club near the airport.

Born in Stoughton, son of the late Peter F. and Marie C. Teixeira Dias, he was educated in Taunton schools and was graduated from Taunton High School in 1979. He attended Johnson State College in Johnson, Vt. for three years, studying studying physical education.

For the past 18 years, he worked as a waste management engineer for the town of Edgartown.

He was a member of the Portuguese American Civic Club in Edgartown. He was a Patriots fan, and enjoyed mountain climbing and skiing.

Survivors include one brother, Peter F. Dias Jr. of Taunton; one sister, Nadine M. Diaz of Taunton; one niece, Christina M. Dias of Taunton; and close friends.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway at St. Mary's square, Taunton. A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation of the Lord Church.

Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
