Amber M. Goodlander, born in South Avis, Pa. died in Denver, Colo. on April 30, 2007. She moved to her beloved Martha's Vineyard in 1996 and lived in Vineyard Haven until November 2006.

She broke traditional barriers and went to college after her children were born and graduated from Lock Haven University. A sharp duplicate bridge player, avid tennis player, and enthusiastic skier, she laughed easily and robustly.

Amber studied Buddhism, wrote poetry, and composed short stories. Her rock gardens were legendary, and always had lovely, serene lily ponds.

Late in life, she learned to play the harp and went on to play at weddings, with symphonies, at official receptions. She has played with the State College Orchestra, at Penn State University, Bucknell University, and at the Hershey Hotel in Pennsylvania. She took her harp to many schools on the Vineyard to expose children to classical music.

Survivors include her three daughters, Kira G. Bishop of Orlando, Fla., Vicki Nutt of Portland, Ore. and Candace Harris of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Donations may be made in Amber‘s name to the Lock Haven branch of the American Association of University Women (Angela Black, 28 South Summit street, Lock Haven, PA 17745) for a scholarship fund designated for returning women attending Lock Haven University.
