Betty M. Hiller, 83, of Teaberry Lane in Edgartown died at the home of her son and daughter in law, Jess T. and Constance R. Hiller in East Greenwich, R.I. on July 4 after a long, courageous struggle with lung cancer. She was the wife of Jess T. Hiller II for 58 years.

Betty was born on April 15, 1924 in Tunis Mills, Md., to the late Clifton and Elizabeth Dadds Murray.

Prior to her marriage, Betty was an executive secretary on the Baltimore Sun papers. After marriage and during 30 years raising her family in Towson, Md., Betty was deeply involved in the social activities of the Church of the Good Shepherd in that community.

Following her husband's retirement, they moved in 1991 to Edgartown where she enjoyed gardening and travel.

Survivors include her husband; her brother Carl of Ocala, Fla.; and five children: Jess Thompson 3rd of East Greenwich; Douglas Walton of Charlottesville, Va.; Richard Benton of Blacksburg, Va.; Geoffrey Beckwith of Parkton, Md.; daughter Beth Ann Hiller of Naples, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Louis and Edward Murray, also sisters Nelly Dunn, Sally Allen and Reva Spuway.

A memorial service will be held on August 25 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, St. Michaels, Md., with interment in the columborium of Good Shepherd Church, Towson, Md.
