Blaine Wright Mallory, 92, died of complications from a stroke in Burlington, Vt., on Saturday.

Born in 1915 in Milwaukee, Wisc., Mr. Mallory attended high school in Scarsdale, N.Y., where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He was a 1938 graduate of Dartmouth College. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander in the South Pacific.

Mr. Mallory was married to Helen W. Bersbach in Stamford, Conn., in 1950. The couple raised their daughter and son and Helen's three children from a previous marriage in New Canaan, Conn., and at their summer home on the Vineyard.

Mr. Mallory was an executive at the Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. in New York city until he retired in 1975. He was active in New Canaan town politics, at the New Canaan Country School, and as president of the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust.

He was an avid sportsman throughout his life, and especially enjoyed tennis and skiing. After his wife's death in 1993, he remained in their home in East Chop on the Vineyard before moving in 2004 to Burlington, Vt.

Survivors include his two children, Sarah Blaine Mallory of Los Angeles and Benjamin Wright Mallory of South Burlington; his three stepchildren, Deborah McCormick Wright of New Canaan, Conn., Barbara McCormick Bailey of Newton and Robert H. McCormick 3rd of Chicago; his sister, Lucia Korsmeyer of Branford, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
