Cecelia S. (Cis) Boykin, 87, died Wednesday, August 8 at the Long Hill Assisted Living Facility in Edgartown after an illness.

Born in Hempstead, N.Y., she was the daughter of Timothy Shanahan and Florence Bosomworth Shanahan. Cis was married to the late Dennis B. Boykin 3rd, who was retired from Electric Boat.

She lived in Niantic, Conn., with her family for more than 35 years before moving to the Vineyard. Cis became a resident of Havenside in Vineyard Haven in 1994.

Cis loved the Vineyard, her apartment overlooking the harbor, and arguing about politics. She was known for her baking, which she enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends. Her main disappointment in life was that her son became a Republican.

Survivors include her twin brother Joseph Shanahan of Massapequa, N.Y.; a daughter, Judy Boykin-McCarthy and her husband John McCarthy of Oak Bluffs; a son, Dennis B. Boykin 4th and his wife Joyce Boykin; and granddaughter Erin Rae Boykin of Leesburg Va.; honorary grandchildren Simone and Liam McCarthy of Edgartown; and many nieces and nephews across the country.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Island Food Pantry, Box 1874, Vineyard Haven MA 02568 or the Red Stocking Fund, Box 74, Vineyard Haven MA 02568.
