The family of Peggy Marian Garner sadly announces her death on August 9 following an extended illness.

Peggy was born in New York city to Marian and Leigh McQueen. She graduated in 1952 from Hunter College, later receiving a master's degree in clementary education from City College. Her marriage to Dr. LeRoy B. Garner Jr. ended in divorce after 19 years.

A favorite teacher in Westbury, N.Y., for 25 years, Peggy leaves behind a generation of students and educators inspired by her love of learning.

Peggy was a longtime resident of Oak Bluffs and of Sarasota, Fla., and was known and loved for her infectious laugh, personal style and inquisitive mind. She will be deeply missed by her family friends and colleagues who live better for having known her.

Survivors include her children Chip and Leslie and her granddaughter Sydney.

A memorial service celebrating Peggy's life will be held on September 29 in Sarasota. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Peggy Garner Memorial Fund at Habitat for Humanity.
