Oswald Wright Marrin Jr. died peacefully at home Dec. 19. He was born April 20, 1919 in New York city.

He was the son of Jean Fyfe and Oswald W. Marrin Sr. He lived his life in Litchfield, Conn.

He attended the Spring Hill School and Hackley School, and was graduated from Brown University in 1942. He immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving as an infantry officer and captain on Guadalcanal, in two more campaigns on Cape Gloucester in New Britain and one in the Peleliu Islands. He was discharged as a major in 1946.

On his return, he worked at Scovill Manufacturing until 1951. He then took over the Marrin Real Estate company, which had been founded by his mother in 1930.

He loved Litchfield, Conn. He was the borough warden from 1967 to 1976. He worked hard to make the center of Litchfield a historic district and to get zoning approved to protect the town’s history and architecture.

In 1984, he served on the Litchfield Citizen Advisory Committee which formed the town plan of development. He was a trustee of the Litchfield Historical Society, a member and past president of the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust and of the Litchfield Country Club, a member of the Sanctum, and charter member of the Rotary Club.

He came to East Chop on the Vineyard as a summer resident in 1961, and then bought a house three years later. He was often seen driving his woody Rolls Royce station wagon around in the summer, and lobstering with his friends.

He enjoyed collecting antique automobiles, flying, travel, golf and tennis and puttering around in his workshop.

He was predeceased by his wife Harriet Hatheway.

Survivors include four daughters, Harriet Blees Dewey, Judy Fyfe Marrin, Palmer Marrin Kleeman and Michele Marrin Osterman, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
