Margaret (Peggy) Denham Turnbull Jones, 85, of Concord, N.H., and Edgartown, died Dec. 16 at Havenwood, Concord, N.H.

She was the wife of T. Curry Jones.

Born in Montclair, N.J., and raised in Summit, N.J., Peggy was the daughter of the late Barton P. and Dorothy G. Turnbull.

She was a graduate of Kent Place School, Summit, N.J., and Wellesley College. She attended Yale Nursing School and worked in the research division of Standard Oil of New Jersey. She was an active volunteer throughout her life: from Morristown Memorial Hospital, N.J., to more than 50 years combined with the altar guilds in Mountain Lakes, N.J., and at St. Andrew’s Church in Edgartown, to volunteering with Hospice and as a literacy volunteer on the Island.

Peggy’s great joy was Chappaquiddick, where she summered every year with her family and cousins. After she married T. Curry Jones in 1945, she continued to bring her family to the island, enjoying every aspect, from tennis, to sailing, to clamming and berry picking. In the early 1980s, Peggy and Curry settled year-round on Chappy, getting involved in many community activities.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, T. Curry Jones; three sons, Barton T. Jones and his wife Deborah of Cornwall, Conn., Peter C. Jones and his wife Rosario of Oakton, Va., and Stephen C. Jones and his wife Cindy of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Carol Jones of Denver, Colo., Janey Seiter and her husband Matthew of Riverside, R.I., and Marianne Jones and her husband Whit Symmes of Concord; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane T. Knight of Sterling and Dorothy Phinney of Farmington, Conn.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family held a service in Concord, N.H., on Dec. 22, and a service for interment of her ashes in the garden at St. Andrews Church, Edgartown Dec. 23.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her memory to St. Andrew’s Church; Martha’s Vineyard Visiting Nurses Association; Women’s Fund of New Hampshire; or the Roberta Minthorne Creative Arts Fund at Grace Church School, New York, N.Y.
