Susan Christine O’Neill, 61, died peacefully at home in Marietta, Ga., on April 3 with family by her side after a valiant bout with cancer. She was born in Boston to parents Robert and Margaret Marsh. Marietta became home in 1979 and Sue flourished in her newfound home, fully enjoying southern living. She relished life and was passionate in gardening, needle arts, quilting, bridge, beading and golf.

She was the essence of compassion and dignity. Sue possessed a God-given strength and sensitivity which she brought to bear as a big sister, a loving wife, a caring mother, a doting grandmother and a dear friend to many. She was blessed with a genuine goodness and strength of character which affected everyone she met. Sue was active in her community. She ran a junior golf program for youngsters and was a founding member and past president of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild. She was a member of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Atlanta Hosta Society and Atlanta Hydrangea Society. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Brian O’Neill and loving sons Michael O’Neill of Marietta, Ga., Geoffrey O’Neill of Kenessaw, Ga., and their special wives Dawn and Joanna; three love-of-her-life grandchildren; and siblings Robert (Jay) Marsh of Little Rock Ark., Margaret (Peggy) Smith of Hingham, Christine Chilsted of Braintree, and stepmother Ethel Marsh of  Oak Bluffs.

Memorial services will be held on April 12 at the Roswell United Methodist Church in Roswell, Ga., at 10 a.m.
