Macio (Bunny) Jackson died Jan. 27 in New York after a long illness. He was 75.

He was born March 24, 1932, at Harlem Hospital in New York city, son of the late Nathaniel and Mamie Cambridge Jackson.

Macio, an Oak Bluffs resident for more than 45 years, was an avid gardener and fisherman. He became well versed fishing the waters of the Vineyard, especially the Gut on Chappaquiddick. When he couldn’t find elbow room on the crowded New York beaches 15 minutes away from his home on Long Island, he purchased 13 Norris avenue, Oak Bluffs, and loved the idea of using the entire Chappy shoreline as his private fishing hole.

Macio, lovingly called Bunny by his family and close friends, left a legacy of achievements that far exceed the average man. From his earliest years, he exhibited exceptional qualities, profound intellect, perseverance, empathy, patience, and positive thinking. These qualities were evident in his lifelong passion for civil engineering and land surveying, a professional career that encompassed 53 joyful years.

Macio Jackson was a registered professional civil engineer and a licensed land surveyor in more than 10 states. He attended Public School 24, Cooper Junior High School, Harren High School, New York University, and the City University of New York. He was the founding partner of Ewell W. Finley, P.C., an African-American owned and operated professional structural, civil engineering and land surveying company in New York.

His professional affiliations included fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, member of the American Consulting Engineering Council, American Institute of Steel Construction, New York Association of Consulting Engineers, Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, National Society of Professional Engineers and member of One Hundred Black Men of Long Island.

Survivors include his wife Felicia Moseley Jackson and two stepchildren Corrin and James; his daughters Pat, Karla and her husband Michael; son Keith and his wife Ann; brother Carl and his wife Billie Jackson; grandchildren Nicole, Kyle, Kesley, Michaela and Keith Jr., nephews Eric and Ako, and nieces Maisha, Malene and Makia.

He leaves all of his friends and family with fond memories of his love of gardening, making model airplanes, solving puzzles, picking up stray dogs, fishing everywhere on the Vineyard especially the Pogue.

Macio Jackson, was a faithful, dependable friend, a super parent, a loving husband and a modern-day pathfinder. He will be missed.

A farewell gathering in celebration of his life will be held June 1 at 8 a.m. on East Beach, Chappaquiddick east of the gatehouse.
