Beatrice Agnes Phillips of the Atria-Woodbrier Assisted Living Center in Falmouth and formerly of Spring street, Vineyard Haven died July 3 at JML Nursing Care Center in Falmouth. She was 103.

Beatrice was born on Nov. 8, 1904 in Roxbury, the daughter of Forrest Francis Phillips and Lillian Catherine Reilly. She was a graduate of Girls High School in Boston and also the Burdett Secretarial College.

She worked for the New England Power Company, now known as Nstar, in Boston and Westborough for 43 years as a secretary, accountant and in the payroll department.

She resided in South Boston, Boston and Brighton before retiring to the Vineyard in 1969. She was active in St. Augustine’s Church in Dorchester and was a member of the Women’s Guild and was also a regent for many years of the Daughters of Isabella. On the Island, she was a parishioner of St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven.

Beatrice was athletic all her life and enjoyed bowling, skiing and swimming. She was a longtime volunteer for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and member of the Vineyard Haven Senior Center. She most of all loved her cats.

Beatrice was predeceased by her brother, Robert Phillips, and her dear friend, Mary Ferrari.

Survivors include her friend, Mary Shute of Osterville.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine’s Church, Franklin street, Vineyard Haven on Tuesday, July 8 at noon. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Vineyard Haven.

Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
