Robert Francis Quinn of Exeter, N.H. and Punta Gorda, Fla., died on Sept. 22 in Newburyport. He was 72 and was the husband of Betty (Robinson) Quinn.

He was born to Margaret Mary and Edward Quinn on Dec. 4, 1935, in Lawrence. He attended Lawrence Catholic High School, followed by service in the U.S. Army including intelligence work in Okinawa, Japan. An avid track and field athlete, he ran track on both the school and Army teams.

He received his degree from Babson College in Wellesley. He worked for many years as the town tax assessor in Seabrook, N.H., as well as working for the state of New Hampshire and in the town office of Oak Bluffs, where he met his wife Betty. He was a devoted public servant and was well-liked and regarded for his easy manner and sunny disposition.

Following his career, Bob enjoyed his retirement years immensely, living seasonally between New England and Florida. He enjoyed his family and friends, playing golf and playing the banjo with his gang, as he called them. He was always quick with a smile and brought great joy to those around him. True to his Celtic heritage, he was blessed with a wonderful twinkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed

He is survived by his devoted wife Betty (Robinson), his loving children Jeffrey, Christopher, Pamela and Lesley; his grandchildren Robert, Gregory and Jennifer; his great-grandchild James; his brother Frank and his family, and Betty’s children, Jeanne and her husband Herman, Paula, Kitty and Raymond; nine step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will take place at St. Michael’s Church in Exeter, N.H. today at 11 a.m.

A graveside service will be held on the Vineyard tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven, officiated by the Rev. Michael Nagle. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
