Anthony M. (Tuffy) Gonsalves died on Nov. 18 in Vineyard Haven at the age of 40. Born in Oak Bluffs on May 4, 1968, he was the son of Joseph B. Gonsalves Jr. and Mildred H. Rocker of Vineyard Haven.
He was a graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and worked as a licensed technician for air conditioning and heating systems. He was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven.
He will be remembered as a caring, loving family man who lived life to the fullest. He has many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Tuffy. He would pile them into the car and go on road trips to amusement parks, ski resorts, Edaville Railroad or drive around looking at Christmas lights. He was a great friend to all who knew him. He was known for his great smile and bear hugs. He had a contagious laugh and a twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by his son Nicholas, 14, of Harwich and daughter Carly, five, of Fairhaven; two brothers, Joseph B. Gonsalves, his wife Rosalind and their children Jordan, Hannah and Matthew, John M. Gonsalves and his children Amanda and Ryan, all of Oak Bluffs; three sisters, Margaret Oliveira, her husband David and their daughter Alicia of Oak Bluffs, Evelyn Larkin, her husband Joseph and their children John and Phillip of Lynn, and Miguel and Lindsey Gonsalves of Vineyard Haven, Yvette Turner, her husband Mark and their children Sarah, Mark and Christian, all of Oak Bluffs.
Visiting hours were held on Nov. 23 and a funeral service was held on Nov. 24 at Our Lady Star of the Sea church in Oak Bluffs.
Interment will be private at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole and Gleason funeral home in Oak Bluffs.
