James J. Marshall Jr. formerly of Vineyard Haven died Wednesday morning, March 4 in his home. He was 44.
He was born on April 24, 1964, the son of James and Julienne (Costa) Marshall. He was a 1982 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. James also attended the University of New Hampshire in pursuit of a marketing degree.
He worked for many years in the marketing field before opening his own marketing agency, The Benjamin James Group.
He was an avid reader and golfer. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted father to his son, Benjamin. His most cherished moments were those spent with Ben.
James is survived by his son Benjamin James of Melrose; his father, James Marshall Sr. of Vineyard Haven; two sisters, Nancy Marshall and her fiancé Mark Berman of Montague and Janet Lee and her husband Nelson Lee of Leominster; three nephews, Tyler Kendrick, Ryan Lee, and Justin Lee; his aunts Virginia Hall and Patricia Costa, both of Oak Bluffs; and his former wife Christine Marshall of Melrose.
He was predeceased by his mother, Julienne Marshall and his grandmother, Jeanette Costa. His family takes comfort in the thought that he has been reunited with his mother whom he missed so dearly. May he finally rest in peace.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Massasoit avenue, Oak Bluffs on Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, State Road, Vineyard Haven.
Visiting hours will be held that morning in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs from 9 until 10:30 a.m.
