Susanne Speakman Denham Singer, known to all as Sis, of Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, Boca Grande, Fla., and West Chop, died on Oct. 21,2009, after a long illness.

Sis was born on May 26,1926, the daughter of William Bailey Denham and Susanne Speakman Denham. She attended Tower Hill School, Chatham Hall, and Sarah Lawrence College. In 1949, she married Alain Raunay Singer. Sis devoted her life to her family and to human services in a multitude of volunteer positions with the American Red Cross, the Christmas Shop, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, and numerous other organizations. She had a lifelong passion for duplicate bridge and was a Life Master. The place closest to her heart was West Chop on the Vineyard, and she gave unstintingly of her energy and resources to many causes and projects there.

She is survived by her son Randy and his wife, Jane Beacom Singer, of Wilmington; her son Patrick Singer, of Hockessin; her grandchildren Paige Dean Denham Singer and her husband, Jason, of Phoenix, Az.; Rand Singer and his wife, Jennifer, of West Grove, Pa.; Scott Singer, and Susanne Singer of Wilmington, Del.; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, James Scott Denham and Willard Allen Speakman Denham and their families.

There was a graveside service at the Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery in October.
