Edna C. Braga, 95, of Quincy, died Wednesday, Dec, 30 at her home. Dearly loved wife of the late Frank Braga, Edna was born in Manchester, England, on Jan. 29, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Crowther. In 1926 her family moved to the United States. Edna and Frank owned and operated the Granite 5 & 10 Stores in Milton, Hingham, Holbrook, Brookline, Cleveland Circle, Wollaston and Martha’s Vineyard.
Edna is survived by her sons Robert Braga and his wife, Linda, of Hingham, and David Braga and his wife, Sandra, of Marshfield. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers Fred and Samuel Crowther.
Edna is lovingly described by her family as the Killer Bee. She was known for her keen mind for business, a loving heart for all people, and a determination and grit that were an inspiration to all who knew her.
A memorial service was held yesterday at St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Quincy, with friends and family gathering for a celebration luncheon immediately following the service at the Granite Links Golf Club. Because Edna was an avid Red Sox fan, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations are made to the Jimmy Fund; donate online at jimmyfund.org. or mail to 44 Binney street, Boston, MA 02115.
