Jane C. Sons died peacefully in her sleep at Long Hill assisted living facility in Edgartown on Feb. 17.

Jane was born on March 10, 1927, in Newton, to Ervene Carter Polson and Robert Page Polson. She graduated from the Weymouth High School and went on to study elocution at Emerson College. On Nov. 22, 1946, she married Thomas W. Flynn, who had returned from serving in the Navy during World War II.

Jane’s lifelong passion was collecting, and occasionally selling, antiques. She had her appraiser’s license and taught an adult education course sharing her passion for the craftsmanship and artistry in those relics of yesteryear. Additionally, she loved dancing and met her current husband of almost 19 years, Edward Sons, on the dance floor.

She is survived by her husband, Edward, who lives at Long Hill. She also leaves two children, Laura Jane LaVigne and her husband Kenneth of Edgartown, and Cornelius D. Flynn of West Tisbury; two grandchildren, Justin Carter Lavigne and Curtis Aaron LaVigne, his wife Valerie and their daughter, Jane’s great-granddaughter Alexis, also of Edgartown. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters, Martha Bean of Amherst, N.H., and Roberta Fairman of Bedford, N.H.

A graveside service will be held in the New Westside Cemetery on Robinson Road in Edgartown on Saturday, Feb. 20 at noon, officiated by the Rev. Richard Fenn.
