Mary Etta Jackson, 74, died on April 15 peacefully at her home in Edgartown surrounded by loved ones. She was born and raised on the Vineyard.
An avid gardener and baker, Mary also found time to make many prize-winning hooked rugs and crafts of all kinds. Also always assisting her husband Paul in preserving all the fresh fruits and vegetables they have been growing and living off of for the past 50 years, she was well known for the countless ribbons won at the Agricultural Fair, and the beautiful flowers she grew and sold for the last 10 years.
A kind, energetic, happy person, she loved her beagles, spending time with her grandchildren, and passing on all her talents to them as they grew up. She was always there for her family no matter what, and even through her tough battle with cancer, she still worried about everybody else and kept a smile on her face. She was loved so much by many and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Paul C. Jackson Sr.; her daughter Beverly A. Bergeron of West Tisbury, son Paul C. Jackson Jr. of West Tisbury; grandchildren, Mary, Eugene, and Sarah Bergeron, Paul and Matthew Jackson; and great-grandson Joseph Medeiros 5th, all of them Island natives.
A graveside service was held on Monday, April 19 in the New Westside Cemetery in Edgartown.
Donations in Mary’s name may be made to Island Hospice, P.O. Box 4188, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
