Francisca (Britto) Charlton died Thursday, May 6, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was 68.

The daughter of the late Angelina Anna (Grace) and Manuel J. Britto, she was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. Francisca was formerly employed as a clerk at Verizon. She was a member of Cape Verdean Ladies Auxiliary, Our Lady of Assumption Senior Club, the New Bedford NAACP, and the Cape Verdean Recognition Parade Committee.

She was the wife of Lee V. Charlton of New Bedford. She is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Charlton and his wife Lisa of New Bedford, and her daughter Karen L. Charlton of Washington, D.C. She was the grandmother of Lee V. Charlton 2nd, the sister of Anna Hawkins and Manuel Britto Jr., both of New Bedford and the late John Britto, Antone Britto, Albert Britto, Angelina DeBois and Mary Costa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on May 11. Interment was in the St. John Cemetery in New Bedford.
